Good Works Will Attract Attacks
“Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?””
John 10:31-32 NKJV
Jesus’ response hit me hard. Here was our Lord Jesus Christ in whom there’s no sin and yet, the Jews He had done so many good works wanted to stone Him.
How many times have you been stoned for your good works? Have people stoned you with their words, opinions, actions, perhaps stonewalled you? Do feel mistreated and misjudged? Take heart and do not take it personally.
Learn from Jesus’ response and know that people don’t always stone you for something bad you did. Doing good works even can attract the wrath of man. Instead of taking it personally and reacting in offense, take a more in-depth look and appropriately discern where the attack is coming from. Jesus knew it was nothing that He had done wrong, so He questioned the Jews, for which of those good works do you stone me?
If you’re going to serve God and love people well, you will have to get out of your emotions and know what comes with the territory. You won’t always be rewarded for the good you do. Man won’t always applaud you for your good works. Instead, you can expect to be stoned in various ways, but don’t get discouraged.
For the times when you are the stoner, I charge you to check your heart. Why stone another? Is it for a good work they do that offends you? Dimming someone’s light won’t make yours shine any brighter. Instead of being jealous or offended by someone’s good work, you can humble yourself and seek God to help you in that area.
I pray that we all lay our stones down and get on our knees. May we be so filled with God and His love that we abound in many good works. When we’re stoned for it, may we count it all joy. Hallelujah! ![]()

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Galatians 6:9-10 NKJV
